Brad Roshak, Steve Smith, and Jacob Holt began their scouting careers
as the only three boys in Pack 294. Ten years later, all three earned
their Eagle Scout awards. |

"Who would have thought the three enthusiastic six-year old boys who
comprised Tiger Cub Pack 294 in May of 1992, and who stood side by side
holding their graduation certificates, would do so again as Eagle Scouts?"
asked Irene Roshak, of St. Clair, the mother of Bradford Roshak.
The three new Eagle Scouts are Steven Smith, Jacob Holt, and Roshak,
and their Scouting careers have been intertwined for a decade.
Smith is a senior at De La Salle High School in Warren. As his Eagle
Scout project, Smith transformed a book storage room into a library in the
basement of St. Mary's School in St. Clair.
He lives with his dad Mike and stepmom Julie in St. Clair. His mom Judy
Smith lives in Roseville. Smith hopes to pursue a career in communications.
Holt and Roshak are seniors at St. Clair High School. Both young men did
work in the city's Greig Park for their Eagle Scout projects. Holt built
butterfly houses and planted flowers in the park. Roshak built bluebird
houses along the nature trails.
Holt is the son of Danielle and Chris, who is the Scout Master of Troop
294. Roshak is the son of Irene and John.
Holt's post-high school interests lean toward the natural sciences
with an eye toward perhaps working for the DNR or owning his own business.
He plans to attend SC4 and then transfer to Lake Superior State. Roshak
plans to study criminal justice at MSU or Western.
"Jake plans on staying involved in Scouting," his mom said.
Both Roshak and Smith work as busboys at the Voyageur Restaurant. Holt
works at Lock's Cleaners in St. Clair.
The young men had their Court of Honor on Sept. 15 at the Knights of
Columbus Hall in St. Clair. The ceremony was attended by 220, including
the members of Troop 294, which has grown to 36 Scouts.
