International Letter of Introduction

The International Letter of Introduction is issued by the International Department of the Boy Scouts of America to registered members upon the recommendation of their local council. This credential identifies you as an official member of a recognized national association of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

This document is recognized worldwide as a means of official identification with the movement and does not imply special accommodations, receptions, or hospitality privileges other than that of good Scouting friendship.

Contained in each International Letter of Introduction will be the address of the national Scout association in the country you will visit.

To obtain an official International Letter of Introduction, please fill out the application and forward it through your local council service center to the International Department, Boy Scouts of America national office. Only one letter is required for a tour group; it is issued to the group leader. In the appropriate column, please specify the number of boys and leaders traveling. Please allow a minimum of three weeks for local and national processing.
